There are some sessions that just melt right into your heart — and this one with Matt and Allie in beautiful Boulder, Colorado is definitely one of them.

I originally met Allie through NAPA Center, the incredible pediatric therapy clinic we bring our son to. Over time, we got to know each other through mutual friends there, and when she reached out about capturing their maternity session while we were going to be in Colorado, it felt like the easiest, sweetest “yes” ever. Connection matters so much to me when photographing people, and with Allie, it already felt like we’d known each other for ages.

And somehow, life brought me right back to Chautauqua Park — a place I had photographed an engagement session for another friend I met through NAPA. Returning in the fall (with the leaves turning the most unreal colors) felt like coming full circle. That golden, moody Colorado light was showing off for us in all the best ways.

We started the session down at the open clearing, letting them just wander together, laugh, breathe, be present. The air was crisp, the mountains were glowing, and the energy felt so soft and intentional. After soaking up the views, we began our hike up the steep incline into the forested trail, where the light filtered through the trees like something straight out of a movie. Classic Colorado magic.

Matt and Allie together are just… pure sweetness. Gentle, goofy, grounding. The kind of couple who interacts with so much tenderness that you can literally feel it through the images. Matt and I ended up chatting about film photography, and he gave me a few tips and recommendations for where to get film processed in Colorado — which, if you know me and my love for film, made my little photographer heart so happy. It felt less like a session and more like spending time with friends in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

From the glowing foothills to the quiet moments tucked into the trees, this Boulder engagement session was truly a dream — a blend of nostalgia, fall colors, connection, and so much love.

Matt & Allie, thank you for trusting me to capture this season of your lives, for hiking with me, laughing with me, and letting me witness the way you love each other. I cannot wait for your maternity session while we’re here in Colorado — something tells me it’s going to be just as magical.

If you’re looking for a Boulder engagement photographer, or dreaming up your own Colorado fall session, I’m back in February 2026, and Chautauqua Park is one of my favorite places to create cinematic, storytelling images that feel warm, real, and deeply personal. If the park ain’t your vibe, I’m down to explore to find a new location to capture your love story.

Until next time, Boulder 🌿✨

xoxo, Chay
